Barb Golen writes:
“My husband Jim Golen has been a home care nurse with St. Luke for many years. He cared for patients, became ill early in this pandemic, and suffered terrible Covid symptoms. He survived and continues to suffer with clots showered in both lungs that is common in Covid survivors.
He is a hero because he knew when he was ill and did not return to work. His sacrifice both physically, emotionally and financially prevented the spread of this infection to his co-workers and patients in their homes as well as long term care facilities in our area.
He is a hero because he is a role model for healthcare workers and the community to stay at home. He has saved many people in our community while providing essential care before the pandemic and also worked in hospice for many years prior to that. I am also an RN who is nursing him back to health so he can be on the front lines once again. He is my hero.”
